For the past eleven years I have been working on a story. A story that I have not really had the courage to put out there on the net because I am afraid of the feed back on this particular story. The story has it all, drama, tragedy, life, death, love, action, betrayal. But here is the thing. The story is based on a genre that is known in Japan as Super Sentai; which is more known in the non Asian speaking countries as Power Rangers.

Now some of you might be asking why would someone write a story based on five kids in spandex and a giant robot? Well at first in High School a friend of mine came up with a story which was a parody which included someone getting dick slapped. From what I remember of the original idea; there were more embarrassing elements added to it, but at the same time I don’t want to go too much into that. Eventually I wanted to do a story involved with the whole thing but I wanted to make it more serious. That was where the bug came in and the group then called Kou Sei Sentai Ryu Ranger came into form.

Intro: Paul, Peter, Mish, Nick, Steve, Tommy, Angela, and Nancy. These people were the basis of the original story which took place years after their supposed first battle with a guy named Kenji. Now they were fighting some guy named Quentin. Yeah good guys win, hang out at “juice bar” and enter the PSA for kids.

But I did not stop. That was when the internet was still in its infancy and I wanted to learn more about the genre Super Sentai. A genre which puts its American Counterpart to shame. In particular I started learning about a series called Go Sei Sentai Dairanger. A series which was never brought to the States in its entirety; this series had it all, and it was also in part the basis for the original Ryu Ranger story.

So I decided to take another crack at the Ryu Ranger story this time making it a little more in line with its Sentai Counterpart by making this team a spinoff of the Dairanger team and now fighting their enemies in the States. Intro of Tommy David Lee, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Hart, Nick Starr, Nancy Wu, Angela Steele, Andrew Lee, Peter Oliver, and Paul Cain.

There was still a lot of the elements from the previous two that were still involved in it plus some romantic involvement with Tommy Lee and Angela Steele. (due to my own personal love life/hell in high school) But it was taking a turn to the serious. People were dying and the stake were more intense. I thought this would be a good place to go.

But I stopped for a while and started working on other stories which included another Sentai type team which were more involved with the Supernatural (which would later evolve into my Millenniumranger series) and another story which was about a woman named Arcana which was more in line with the Pretty Soldier type stuff you would find in Sailormoon or Magic Knight Rayearth.

But eventually this brought me back towards the Ryurangers which were still stuck in the same type of universe I started. A bunch of smartassed teenagers who made the Power Rangers look good. It was going nowhere fast.

So I took more time off and worked on another fanfiction based on the legendary anime Super Dimension Fortress Macross. But around this time I got inspiration from a woman I met after talking online for years. The Ryurangers were back but this time they were short Tommy. He had branched off into his own story involving a gargoyle named Snow who was also a human named Mari Fiore.

And at the same time another Sentai story was in the works which would have been in the same universe as the Ryurangers but stood on their own. The working title was Alpha Sentai Victory Five. (At the time Kyu Kyu Sentai Go-GoV was on the air in Japan. Aka Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue) It had characters from certain Ryuranger stories coming together and being selected with new characters to form a team to stop a threat from an alien force.
But at the same time it was time for the Ryurangers to get a change. Enter Tommy Xiaou Li.

He was not the same Tommy that appeared in previous drafts. He was something more, even the Ryuranger Universe was now being prepared for a reboot. Starting with Tommy Li. A lot of the elements from Dairanger were now more apparent. Sans the Dairangers. Tommy Li was half black half Chinese. Lived in California, Japan, and Hong Kong. And was a descendant of the Dai Tribe in which the Rangers inherited their powers. Which leads to him losing his parents, and becoming a Ranger.

The Gorma were now in the story and included were the Triumvirate that made the Dairangers lives hell: Shadam, Zydos, and Gara replaced Kenji, Stefan Harmon, and Aiya (who was now called Aya and was the ex lover to the Tommy Li character)

The Rangers were now becoming more serious and the named was now changed to Go Sei Sentai Ryuranger. Enter Mishelle Avelina Rodriguez, Nicolas “Nick” Starr, Steven Hart, and Nancy Wong Fei Wu. The Ryurangers were now down to the traditional five. And other characters were changed: The sixth Ranger was now a child named Peter Koushinsei, and Darian Cain was a student councilor at the Ranger’s school which was in the City of Lakewood, California

Things were starting to fall into place with the story. Enter 2001. A new storyline is added as well as the fact that the Li family had other siblings. Like Lisa, Li’s oldest half-sister, and Tonya who was also soon to be the Ryurangers mentor in a new storyline which takes place with them as adults. New battles and even a world where the previous incarnation of the Rangers exist. The story was now that a reformed team must now fight Lisa Li to stop the end of humanity

Even more allies started to appear like Enyo Brightblade, (thanks Iva-Chan) a woman who has a long link with the Li family and a strong emotional bond with Tommy (who is called by Li more than his first name). Victory Five has now been made more intertwined with the Ryuranger storyline including a cousin of Li’s who works for the V5 team. Angela Steele is now the new sixth Ranger to the adult team.

And now here I am in 2007 working on a new the storyline preparing to show it and see what people think. The Rangers have grown since I started working on them and I think that this new version of them is the definitive version of a group of characters that have started as smartasses and became totally three dimensional. They are not goody goodies chosen by a floating head to save the world from some evil Japanese lady living on the Moon.

They are people with flaws and are trying to keep the people they love and countless others safe from a threat which means to kill anyone who stands in their way.

I want to show that this story is something beyond kids and good and evil. But how five people can come together and share a bond that goes beyond anything they have ever known.
